Lay your problems down at the cross where your freedom's found!

R.I.P. Muscles.

I have been having problems with my truck for weeks now. If it is not one thing, it has been another!!! Specifically, Muscles kept (yep, past tense) overheating. After replacing the water pump, radiator, thermostat, and most of the hoses, I thought the days of "giving old Bessy a sip of water to keep her cool" might be over--but oh no!!! Apparently, Muscles gets very heated.

I took my truck into our mechanic one more time this morning, and it took him about 30 seconds to diagnose what was wrong this time: the head gasket is blowing out. And yes, that is a repair that costs more than my old beater is worth.

So, I am in the market for a new truck.

As you can guess, I was feeling pretty discouraged on the way home from the mechanic (and also resisting the urge to let it all loose and see how much damage I could do to Muscles). I had just brought my truck up as a prayer request earlier this morning at my men's Bible study--that God would give me clarity on what I should do with the troublesome truck. I guess He did. Just not exactly the answer I was hoping for.

Then this song came on the radio:

I started laughing, crying, and singing along with the radio all at once! It was as if God was giving me a little reality check, reminding me of His goodness. His grace is enough for me, no matter what problems I go through!

It is so true, isn't it? The trivial things we go through are nothing compared to how thankful we should be for the cross!

By "mere coincidence", we were discussing this verse in men's bible study today:

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 2:1 NASB)

So yeah, any suggestions on what I should do to Muscles before he gets scrapped??? ;0)

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your truck. That really must be discouraging, especially after only having him for a short time. I will pray that God provides another truck for you in the near future. I know almost nothing about cars, but is there Any chance you could get a head gasket from a junk yard?

  3. @Kyle: Ah yes.... the head gasket problem.... I've never dealt with them exactly, but I know just how expensive that can be...... :P Plus you gotta machine the head before replacing the gasket... which equals a lot of money.

So... first of all, just do something crazy in that old truck.... take it out and off road... have a ball... and take me along! :P (First step, mind you) If it's still running after that, then you sell it...! (Coming from a car salesman!)

Seriously though, scrapping may not be your best bet.... you might want to sell it.... Cause the amount they'll give you for it is normally pretty small. You might make a few hundred extra selling it.

  4. If you want, or if none of the above options work, you could also donate it to Gospel for Asia. I believe I've heard they take vehicles (even if the vehicles don't work).
